always always

walking sideways
has always
been my thing.

 singing always,
always singing,
hoping for
new beginnings.

beginning to learn
to walk again
after an un-graceful
fall.

learning to smile again
after feeling
nothing at all.

nothing at all.

About Debbie Shahar

My thoughts, fears, feelings... intertwine. They change. I do not sometimes. They too sometimes stay the same. The song in me wants to fly free. The bird has it. I need it. I cannot Let me be. "Nobody heard him, the dead man, But still he lay moaning: I was much further out than you thought And not waving but drowning." 1. Great affirmation – fabulous use of repitition

  2. walking sideways sounds familiar to me as well…lots of hope and music in this one deb…sing on…sing on…

  3. This could be put to music! I enjoyed your words. We all have to learn to walk again after we fall, as fall we will at sometime!

  4. This is very like a song, the repetition a pendulum. Great beginning and close.

  5. Walking sideways sounds like something I have done…I hope you sing and I hope that you smile always 🙂

  6. Love this! Wonderful timing.

  7. happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you…happy birthday dear debbie, happy birthday to you…!
    enjoy the day 🙂

  8. i’ve been there, too, and gotten back up to sing like nobody’s listening (which they usually aren’t!) and dance like nobody’s watching, as they say.

this flows so nice, debbie. i liked it a lot.

  9. happy birthday! yay! i hope that you have a wonderful day and that yes feeling comes back to where once there was none…what a beautiful resurrection that would be…

  10. This take a lot of courage:

    “learning to smile again
    after feeling
    nothing at all.”

Happy birthday to you ~ Cheers ~

  11. Love – walking sideways – a great intro – it devolops so well and the flow becomes subtle message and one i can relate to.
nice work deb – happy birthday – best wishes

  12. Thank you, dear friends, for commenting and connecting to the poem and celebrating with me 🙂

  13. That repeated “nothing at all” -learning to smile after this takes some doing. Singing really helps. I do it a lot too.

  14. I just got your lovely comment and came right over. I spent the morning singing so

    singing always,
    always singing

went straight to my teary eye. Your poem has a lovely lilting song in its heart and it was my great pleasure to hear it. How kind of you to share your gifts with us on your birthday. Happy, happy, happy, happy Birthday (since we’re repeating and joy should know no bounds :))!

  15. awesome write, Deb! I am a sideways walker, too – although I don’t sing much (smiles)

  16. This sounds like a song it is a great write and the repeated lines in here really add to this song

  17. I like your attitude, and great way to use the repetition device while making the words sing, too. Hope your birthday was as lovely as your poem.

  18. Lovely passing of the baton through sound gives this an effective..and pleasing.. lilt. Repetition is key in suggesting a positive feeling here…

  19. ? את זמרת
    גם אני

  20. new beginnings are so exciting.

  21. We have all done that side-ways shuffle before, yet here you show us the straightaway through strength and perseverance..

    much enjoyed this poem:-)

  22. I love the meter and the musicality — particular those first two stanzas:

    walking sideways
    has always
    been my thing.

    singing always,
    always singing,
    hoping for
    new beginnings.

    Very nice effect!

And then the close — the repeated last line — very well done!

  23. “Come live in my heart, and pay no rent.” ~ Samuel Lover

  24. This touches my deepest soul dear lady.

When I am sad or worried, I sing, and it saves me.

Thank you for these beautiful words.

  25. this has an air of Melody to it! a lot of alliteration and hidden rhyme.

there’s an undisclosed meaning within, and because of its joyousness it gives the reader a lift, too.

the visual of ‘walking sideways’ is also intriguing.

Thanks for writing and sharing. Good poem!

Poems are my first hand emotions. The molten lava within me that overflows with tectonic shift of time, I just scribble and present it before you. Poems are the first tool that taught me to express and that too without any prejudice or bias. I have promised myself to continue with it throughout my life.
